In Bhandara the mehendi is usually a home function: the bride’s family fills the angan, terrace or front room with relatives, the mehendi artists sit with the bride for hours, and the singing starts once the hands are done. The decoration has to work for that crowd: a comfortable, well-lit seat for the bride, plenty of floor seating, and a backdrop that looks good in every photo the cousins take.

When the family books a mangal karyalaya instead, we dress the hall the same way and add a small stage and lights so the mehendi can run into a sangeet.
